Typically as you collect tools for use in ritual, you will need to consecrate them. Just what is consecration, and how do you do it?
The dictionary defines consecration as “dedication to the service and worship of a deity”. So in plain English, you are ritually setting an object aside for the express use for worship of the Gods.
This concept of consecrating tools is relatively new as far as Witchcraft is concerned. It has also lead to some odd and interesting ideas on what a ritual tool must be.
There are many books that tell you that an Athame must be a black handled, double edged knife. While this may be considered traditional, as with most everything else in the Craft, it really comes down to what you feel is right for you.
What do you believe your Athame must look like? Do you really need that $200 hand forged, Damascus steel blade for your ritual knife, or will that cheap knock off from Pakistan, you found at at the 99 Cent Store do?

How to - Cast Open Circle
Everything else builds on this one basic skill.
Do it right.
There are numerous resources both in books and on the web, for learning how to cast Circle, and perform ritual. Most state similar techniques, and this will probably be no different. Circle casting is done a specific way because the act of casting begins the process of attuning your subconscious to the awareness of forces that are not normally recognized.

How To - Closing the Circle
After you have completed your Working, and enjoyed something to eat and drink, you have one last part of the ritual to complete. You must take down the Circle. While opening the Circle can be the quickest part of the ritual to do, it is one of the most important.
There are a lot of Witches who rush through this part, or fail to fully Banish what they have Invoked. Banishing is probably the most important thing you will learn how to do. If you know how to Banish properly, it won’t matter what you may encounter, you will be able to deal with it.
Every teacher I have ever worked with has always taught their students how to Banish before they teach how to Invoke, or Evoke. The reason for this is that when you are learning how to Invoke, if your will isn’t properly focused, or your mind wanders, you may bring to you something other than you intend. If you know how to Banish properly, you can send whatever you might call, back to where it belongs.

How To Call the Corners - Calling The Quarters
Before reading this, you should have read Opening the Circle, and be comfortable with Banishing.
Having Cast your Circle, you now have a Sacred Space in which to perform your Working. You cleansed then defined this space when you cast the Circle earlier. By doing this, you changed the area from mundane, to Sacred. Sacred Space allows you to work outside the physical plane. The area within the Cast Circle is now part of the Spiritual Plane.
The Circle serves two purposes. It holds any energy that you may raise in ritual so that you can tap into it and direct it. It also protects you and everyone within it, from whatever forces may be encountered in the Spiritual plane. The Spiritual plane is an area of the super natural. Super means above, so this Spiritual plane is above the natural plane. It is not unnatural, it is super natural.

Being a Witch is more than just calling yourself a Witch.
Being a Witch is more than just calling yourself a Witch.
A Witch does not brag about what he or she is capable of either spiritually, or Magically.
A Priest or Priestess does not tell others what they should or should not do.
A Witch simply doesn’t need to.
The only personal affairs that a Witch is concerned with, are his or her own. That is the lesson that most who claim the title of Witch, never seem to learn. Have you ever watched Televangelists shout from the pulpit and points out over the congregation, telling them how they shouldn’t be doing this, or should be doing that?
A friend once pointed out that every time you point at someone else, and say what they are doing wrong, you have one finger pointed at them, and three fingers pointed back at yourself. Televangelists seem to do a lot of pointing.
